We are the music makers, we are the dreamers of dreams...
As a baby Nina couldn't stand to be separated from her mother. If the little one couldn't reach out and touch Marceline, she'd sob and wail until she could. It was very hard and exhausting on the entire family. Luckily Nina's need to be attached to her mother at all times began to die down when she was a toddler. She still preferred to snuggle up in mommy's pouch or cling to her tail but could finally be without her for short periods of time. To everyone's surprise, the older she got the less time Nina spent around her mother. As a preschooler she still trailed after the tall gray bean but by the time she was seven no one would have ever guessed she used to been so obsessed with her mother. Nina still loves her mom, and spends the whole year looking forward to putting up Christmas decorations with her, but the littlest Sonata simply outgrew her excessive attachment.
Nina has always been intrigued by her father's dabbles with voodoo and she's spent many nights listening to his stories about it. But voodoo isn't the only thing about his Southern stories that Nina likes. She loves to hear about what his childhood was like, how his hometown looked, and how his siblings behaved. She's quite fascinated by his history, often begging for a new story at least once a week. Whenever Nina is upset, her father is the very first bean she goes to. He's always there for her when things get rough and she needs to talk, scream, cry, or even just sit quietly in the presence of someone else. No matter how old she gets, Zimri will always be her daddy and she knows that means she'll always be able count on him.
Even though they have rather different tastes, Nina and Kain get along fairly well. As a fairly young bean Nina started taking after their sister and started spending time quietly watching him play video games. Over the years she's watched him play more times than she can count! She'd probably never admit it, but at least handful of her favorite memories involve her big brother - watching him play games, coming up with stories together, listening to him play his sitar, and even the time she walked in on him playing Silent Hill and fainted! Kain's games are even the first place Nina ever saw mountains, which just makes her cherish him even more.
Ever since Nina was born, before she had even hatched, Jaxene was determined that the new little one would her bestest friend. Nina wanted nothing to do with her big sister as a baby, but the older she got the more she began to look up to her big sis Jacks. They spent much of their time together when little sis was still little. Jaxene even played quite a big role in teaching Nina to read! They've gone on countless adventures through their backyard, camp outs in the living room, had dozens of cookie bake-offs, and even tried to write a few songs together. Although Jax doesn't share Nina's intense passion for the outdoors, the understanding she holds means so very much to her little sister.
Nina has never been particularly close to her Atty Vola, given their vastly different personalities. With Viola's muteness it can be hard for some to communicate with her, but Nina has got it down to a science. They don't 'speak' very often, but whenever they do her niece enjoys it. Even though she may not have a serious interest in any of it and doesn't say much in response, Viola doesn't mind listening to her niece babble about her hydrothermal-related obsessions from time to time.
Unca Dunka and Nina have always been like two peas in a pod. Their musical tastes are very similar; he even swears her love of The Beatles broke free of genetics and was somehow passed down to her! His niece has never been able to understand his accent well and basically just ignores him when he's excited, but it does make her laugh to hear him spouting off in what sounds like a completely different language. Dunkin took her on her very first adventure - a one night stay at a local campground - which she's positive helped shape her love of the wild. They don't get the chance to adventure much, given the family he's got to take care of, but whenever they're able the two love to spend time outside together. Nina's been trying to convince him to go white water rafting with her for years and she's sure that he'll cave any day now!
Lute is definitely Nina's favorite cousin! They have similar enough personalities and interests that they've always gotten along. His enthusiasm and eagerness to explore make him a great adventure-buddy! When they were young the two could be rather competitive, always turning every meeting into some sort of race, scavenger hunt, or super serious basketball showdown.
Bubbly Panelope can always get Nina to open up. Her love of chatting coupled with the fact that she doesn't mind random topics means she doesn't mind her cousin's always similar banter. However, all the talking can tire Nina out so she tries not to spend too much time with Pannie. Sometimes Nina feels bad about it, but she thinks her cousin understands.
Nina still isn't quite sure what to make of Paisley. She's so shy its rather hard to get to know her even though she's usually trailing behind her big sister. Nina tends to think of her kind of like a rare butterfly: beautiful and gentle, but so very elusive!
Although Nina thinks Unca Bradun is really neat and loves listening to him play his cello, they've never been particularly close. She tries really hard to impress him with a new fact or story whenever she sees him, hoping to win him over with her knowledge. Although they don't spend much time together, Brandon inspires his niece to be polite - like the true gentleman she is!
Atty Manda has always been Nina's favoritest aunt in the whole wide world! She's always been Nina's Sunsine, the bright happy aunt who never seems to get tired of hearing what she has to say. Poor Amanda probably knows just as much about hot springs as her niece does and yet she always sits down and really listens, smiling the entire time, whenever Nina wants to tell her all about them. The young girl would never admit it, but she kind of sees her aunt as a sort of hot spring herself. She's so bright and beautiful and colorful, plus she likes to make Nina smile! All exactly like a hot spring!
Unca Toofwess is way more fun than anyone else in Nina's whole family, she swears it! Putting on costumes and running through the yard has never been turned down by the best uncle ever. Whenever he comes to visit, Nina loves to climb into her bird wings and pretend she can fly with him. They're not very close emotionally, but Toothless has always been able to bring out Nina's playful side and cheer her up even when no one else can.
Nina is absolutely dying to meet new baby Katniss! She bothered Atty Manda so much that she was afraid her aunt might just stop picking up the phone. But now that little Katniss is here, Nina's spent every day begging to go visit. She's absolutely positive that Katniss is the perfect bean and secretly hopes that they can be like sisters. Mom promised they'd visit soon, but no soon is soon enough for Nina!
